Chemdawg is a well-known hybrid strain that’s become easily recognizable due to its characteristic features.  Between its mysterious origin, ambiguous genetics, and the plethora of successful crosses the strain has produced, Chemdawg has practically secured itself a permanent place in the cannabis hall of fame. The original source of powerhouse strains like Sour Diesel and OG Kush, Chemdawg is known for its distinct, diesel-like aroma. Not only does this strain smell dank, it actually is dank. Chemdawg’s effects are just as described, giving consumers a happy, creative, relaxed, euphoric, and uplifted vibe.

The strain is easily recognizable with its round buds, wide indica shapes, highlighted with dark lime indica shades and lots of light lemon, fiery reddish, orange and tan sativa hairs all glued together with large, gleaming, trichomes.  Chemdawg is super potent and recommended for more seasoned cannabis enthusiasts. If you’re a newer consumer and would like to give it a try, I’d recommend starting with a low dose since its easy to overmedicate.

Some of the medical uses for this strain include stress, depression, pain, fatigue, and insomnia. It has also been used to crossbreed several popular and successful strains. Chemdawg’s THC content has been measured at between 15%-20%. Smokers may experience a sharpening of the senses and an increased hyper-awareness of their surroundings. This initially disorienting head high becomes more productively cerebral and introspective in the right set and setting. Chemdawg can lend itself to exuberant conversation. Its ability to amplify sensory experiences also makes it particularly good for creative endeavors. The effects of Chemdawg are part of the reason for its legendary status. With a cerebral effect that can last hours, Chewmdawg is a go-to strain when you’re in need of a boost in productivity and energy. The strain is also loaded with carophyllene and myrcene terpenes which makes the strain great for treating chronic anxiety and pain, depression, PTSD and migraines as well as nausea.

No one really knows for sure where Chemdawg came from originally but theres a widely known story about it. It is rumored that Chemdawg was created from a cross of Kush, Hash Plant and Northern Lights, however the exact origins of the strain are shrouded in obscurity and controversy. The birth of Chemdawg begins with a grower named Joe Brand, also known as Wonkanobe, and his friend Pbud from Colorado. They went on tour with the band Grateful Dead with a pound of pot that they called Dog Bud because “it was so strong that it made you roll over like a dog” after smoking it according to Pbud. Dog Bud is rumored to have been grown from a three-way cross of Thai, Hashplant and Skunk by smuggler and breeder Frank Gegax in a huge underground pot bunker which was raided in 1990. They also jokingly called it Chemweed due to its fuel/chemical like smell. One of Wonkanobe and Pbud’s customers from a show fell in love with the Chemweed and instantly returned for more of it. He became friends with Wonkanobe and Pbud and eventually combined the names “Dog Bud” and Chemweed” into “Chemdawg”. The rest is history.
